In conjunction with the exhibition Modern Love: 20th-Century Japanese Erotic Art, in which her manga Love Vibes is displayed, the world-renowned manga artist Sakurazawa Erica visited the Honolulu Museum of Art. Ms. Sakurazawa held a day-long, invitational master class on manga. She shared with the students personal stories about her daily work, the trials and tribulations of the Japanese manga industry, and technical advice on how to produce professional images. The students then devoted the remainder of the workshop to drafting their own manga under Ms. Sakurazawa’s guidance. The artwork displayed here testifies to the creative synergy that occurred during the workshop and the wonderful rapport between Ms. Sakurazawa and the participants.
