Though its title references The Illustrated Night Parade of a Hundred Demons (Gazu hyakki yagyō), the bestiary published in 1776 by Toriyama Sekien (1712–1788), when the imagery here is compared with that found in Tales of a Hundred Vaginas (Hyaku bobo gatari, c. 1772-1781), on display to the left, Kunisada’s debt to Katsukawa Shunshō (1726–1792) is undeniable.
